Recently the US presidential candidate John McCain said, “The eyes of the world are now on the Volt. It’s the future of America and the world.” Volt or more precisely, the Chevrolet Volt is General Motors’ electric car. It was launched last year in a Detroit motor show and is supposed to go on commercial sale by the year 2010. With the rising fossil prices, as well dangerous levels of population caused by them, electric cars for sale from the reputed General Motors are expected to seize the interest of a lot of people.
The Chevrolet Volt is actually a hybrid car. What makes it different from the existing hybrid cars is that unlike the traditional hybrid cars where the electric car motor works as a supplement to the petroleum engine, the Chevrolet Volt uses its electric motor as the mains source of power. When the battery is exhausted it shifts to the internal combustion engine. According to sources at General Motors the owners of the Chevrolet Volt may only need to charge the car overnight and it would serve their purpose.
Keeping the specs that have been revealed by General Motors until now, the Chevrolet Volt seems to have a lot of promise.
